I love grilled cheese sandwiches. Love. I’ve been eating them all my life, specially when I was still in Holland with their delicious cheese. And I was always happy and satisfied. But now I’ve found a way to improve the already tasty grilled cheese sandwich, and make it deliciously addictive: the best grilled cheese sandwich recipe ever!
- Your favorite bread (I used 4 slices, cause I can’t just eat one sandwich. I need two)
- Your favorite cheese(s)
- 1 ripe avocado
- 1 beautiful red tomato
- Some fresh basil leaves
- Pepper (and salt if you want)
- Little bit of oil
Yum. Just writing down the ingredient list already makes me hungry. I ate all the cheese though, so no best grilled cheese sandwich for me right now 😦 Right, the recipe. It’s easy! 🙂
Start by putting a frying pan on the stove on medium heat. Keep an eye on it, don’t let it get super hot.
Now peel the avocado and slice into nice thick slices. You are allowed to eat a few slices while making it, I won’t judge you 😉 I love my avocado slices with a little salt and lemon on it. Next slice the cheese and put it on the bread, as much or little as you want (if you ask me more is always better when it comes to cheese, but that’s just me). Put the avocado on top of the cheese with some tomato slices on top of that. I sprinkled a little coarse salt and pepper on that, just because I can 😉 And I’m kinda addicted to salt. But feel free to skip the salt! Next I got two little leaves of basil from our plant, tore this into pieces and divided it over the two sandwiches. Put the other slice of bread on top of it, drizzle a little oil on top and put it in the pan (oil side down) which should be the right temperature now. Drizzle a little more oil on the side that is on top now. Turn when the cheese is starting to melt. I like to do it on very low heat cause I like all the cheese to be melted, but if you don’t have the patience you can turn it a little higher and have a little less melted cheese. Do whatever you feel is right! 😉 And: ENJOY!!! Yum! 🙂
